Part of a Limited edition of 10 hand-finished silk screen prints on two drum heads

A unique opportunity to own a very special item of music history in the form of a limited edition pair of replica Star Head Remo drum fronts signed by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason CBE. The original The Egyptian Eye of Horus drum head, first appeared on stage when Pink Floyd played at the Hyde Park Free Concert on 18 July 1970. These intricately painted drum heads were custom created for Nick Mason CBE and their designs incorporate the Renaissance figure of The Vitruvian Man and The Egyptian Eye of Horus, a symbol of protection, unframed, 59cm diam, with letter of authenticity from Nick Mason CBE
Nick Mason CBE recalls,
“A couple of years ago, we were moving all of the drum kits and accessories, which contained custom painted drum fronts painted for me by artists in the early 1970’s. I thought it would be really nice to do a limited edition of ten hand finished silk screen prints of each drum head”.
The printing of these editions was supervised by artist and animator Kate Hepburn to properly represent the originals, together with Matthew Rich, Jealous Print Studio, London. Nick commissioned Kate Hepburn to paint his 1973 Ludwig drum kit to tour Japan with artwork influenced by Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave. Kate has worked since the 1970s on Pink Floyd and numerous other stadium tour designs at Mark Fisher’s studio Stufish, as well as animation and design with Monty Python and Terry Gilliam.
The items are supplied directly from Nick Mason and to be auctioned for the UK Sepsis Trust.
